Privacy policy
Last updated: 15 October 2026 · Effective: 15 October 2026
The short version
Vocal Companion keeps everything you put into it on your phone. There is no account and no sign-in. The app has no analytics, no ads, no tracking and no AI reading your notes. We don't receive your recordings, notes or practice history, so we can't see, sell or share them.
If you live in Washington, Nevada or Connecticut, also see our Consumer Health Data Privacy Policy at vocalcompanion.com/consumer-health-data.
Who we are
Vocal Companion is made by Mark Jidon, who has a voice condition himself. In this policy "we" means Mark Jidon, the developer of Vocal Companion, trading as Moriya Works. Contact: hello@vocalcompanion.com. Post: Moriya Works, Lot 91, Off Persiaran Golf, Saujana Resort, 40150 Shah Alam, Selangor, Malaysia.
What the app keeps, and where
The app saves what you enter so it can show your routines, history and progress. This includes:
- your routines, exercises, reminders and settings
- your practice sessions and how your voice felt (ease ratings, tags and where you felt tension)
- your journal notes and voice memos
All of this is stored inside the app on your device. The app makes no internet connections and does not send any of it to us or to anyone else. Some of it is health information, and it never leaves your device unless you choose to send it.
Your device's backups
If your phone backs up apps (iCloud Backup on iPhone, Google backup on Android), the app's data is included in that backup, as with most apps. To leave it out, choose Phone only in Settings > Your data. On Android this also leaves it out of phone-to-phone transfers. On iPhone this leaves out your sessions, journal and voice memos; app settings, such as your name, can still be in the backup. Google keeps up to 25 MB per app and skips the backup past that. Those backups belong to your Apple or Google account and are handled under Apple's or Google's privacy terms. We can't access them.
Anyone who can unlock your phone can open the app. Exported files and backup files are ordinary files and aren't encrypted. Once you save or send one, keep it somewhere safe.
Microphone
The app asks for the microphone only when you tap Record in the journal. Recordings are saved in the app on your device. If you say no, everything else still works.
Notifications
If you turn on practice reminders, the app asks to send notifications. Reminders are scheduled on your phone; no server is involved.
When you choose to share
You can export a summary for your therapist (PDF), export your data (CSV) or make a backup file. Each time, your phone's share sheet opens and you choose where it goes, such as your email, Files or a cloud drive. Once you send it, the app or service you chose handles it under its own privacy policy.
Purchases
If you buy Lifetime Pro, a one-time purchase, Apple (App Store) or Google (Google Play) handles the payment. We don't receive your card details. The stores give us sales reports that don't identify you, and the app checks your purchase on your device.
The free trial starts the first time you open the app. So that deleting and reinstalling the app doesn't start it again, the app saves the date it started on your phone: in the iPhone keychain, or on Android in Google Play services' Block Store, which Google may include in your device backup (end-to-end encrypted). On iPhone the app also asks the App Store when your Apple Account first got the app. Only that date is kept, and we don't receive it.
Statistics from Apple and Google
Apple and Google may show us summary statistics about the app, such as download counts or crash rates, if you've agreed to share them with developers in your phone's settings. These don't include anything you entered in the app.
Deleting your data
You can delete entries and voice memos in the app. Deleting the app deletes everything it stored on your device. We have no copy to delete.
Children
Vocal Companion is for adults and is not directed to children under 13. We don't knowingly collect information from children.
In some US states the law requires Apple or Google to tell apps a user's age range (under 13, 13-15, 16-17 or 18+). Where that applies, Vocal Companion checks it on your device each time it opens, only to apply those age rules. It doesn't keep the result and never sends it to us.
Our website
vocalcompanion.com doesn't use cookies or analytics. Its fonts are served from our own site, so visiting doesn't connect you to Google or any other third party. Our host, Cloudflare, briefly processes standard request data such as IP addresses to deliver and protect the site.
When you join the waitlist, Cloudflare Turnstile checks that you're not a bot, using details from your browser and connection. It doesn't use cookies to track you, and we don't receive those details. If you join the waitlist, we keep your email address and the platform you chose (iPhone or Android) in a database at Cloudflare, our website host. We use them only to tell you when the app is available and to invite some people on the list to test it early. If you're picked as a tester, we'll ask you first. If you say yes, we give your email address to Apple (TestFlight) or Google (Google Play testing) so they can send you the test version. We never sell your email, use it for ads, or upload it to any advertising platform. You can unsubscribe from any email, or ask us to delete your details, and we'll delete them.
If you email us, we keep your email address and message so we can reply. Please don't send recordings or medical details.
Do Not Track
Neither the app nor the website tracks you over time or across other apps and websites, and we don't let anyone else do that through them. Because there's no tracking to switch off, we treat every visitor the same way whether or not your browser sends a Do Not Track or Global Privacy Control signal.
Your rights
You can ask what personal information we hold about you, and ask us to correct it, delete it or stop using it, by emailing hello@vocalcompanion.com. We'll reply within 45 days. We don't charge for this. If we turn down a request, you can appeal by replying to our answer with the word "Appeal", and we'll respond within 45 days. For the app, the answer is that we hold nothing: your data stays on your device, and you can view, change or delete it there.
Changes to this policy
If we change this policy, we'll update the dates at the top. For important changes, we'll tell you in the app and, if you're on the waitlist, by email, before the change takes effect. We'll never start collecting your recordings, notes or practice history without asking you first.
