About Vocal Companion

Why I made it

I'm Mark Jidon, the founder of Vocal Companion. I've lived with muscle tension dysphonia (MTD) for about two years.

When I was diagnosed, I left the clinic with a sheet of exercises and a follow-up date weeks away. At home I kept losing track. Did I do the humming today? Was my voice getting easier, or was I imagining it? I tried note apps, voice apps and habit trackers. None of them fit what I needed as someone with MTD.

So I built the app I wanted: one place to do my exercises, write down how my voice feels, and bring something clear to my next appointment.

What it is

Vocal Companion is a voice rehab practice app for iPhone and Android, launching soon.

  • Routines of voice exercises, read aloud step by step with a timer.
  • Your own exercises: add the exact ones your speech therapist gives you.
  • A voice journal: a daily check-in, a body map for where tension shows up, notes and voice memos.
  • Trends from your own ratings over 7, 14 and 30 days.
  • A PDF summary, a CSV export, or a single session as text, to share with your therapist if you choose.

What it isn't

Vocal Companion doesn't diagnose, treat or measure your voice. It doesn't analyze or score your voice: voice memos are recordings for you to listen back to. It helps you keep up the practice your speech-language pathologist or ENT gives you, and keeps a record of how it felt.

I'm not a clinician. I'm someone doing voice therapy, like you. The suggested exercises come from published voice research and NHS speech and language therapy guides, and each one's sources are listed at vocalcompanion.com/sources. If your voice changes suddenly, hurts, or stays hoarse for more than three weeks, please see a doctor.

Why there's no account and no AI

Your voice journal is about your health, so it stays on your phone. There's no account, no sign-in, no analytics and no ads, and no AI reads your notes. You can back up everything to one file or export it whenever you like. The details are at vocalcompanion.com/privacy.

Who's behind it

Vocal Companion is made by me, Mark Jidon, through my studio Moriya Works in Shah Alam, Malaysia.
