Vocal Companion
For muscle tension dysphonia or anyone that wants a healthier voice

I couldn’t find an app for my voice. So I made one.

Vocal Companion is a calm place to do your voice exercises, journal how your voice feels, and see whether things are getting easier. Built by someone living with muscle tension dysphonia.

When I was diagnosed with muscle tension dysphonia, I left the clinic with a sheet of exercises and a follow-up date weeks away.

At home I kept losing track. Did I do the humming today? Was my voice actually improving with the exercises I was doing? I searched for note apps, vocal related apps, habit trackers. None of them knew what I needed as someone with MTD.

I needed three things, and I couldn’t find them in one place.

A journal for how my voice felt

Mark where it’s tight on a simple body map: jaw, throat, neck, breath. Add a line or a quick voice memo. Your entries build a picture you can bring to your next appointment.

A reason to show up each day

Routines for morning and evening, read aloud step by step with a timer. No streaks to break. If you rest, nothing is “missed”.

You can also create your own exercises, like the ones your therapist gives you.

Every suggested exercise comes from published voice research or NHS therapy guides. See the sources

See how your voice is doing

After each exercise, rate how easy it felt. Two weeks in, you see where tension keeps showing up and which exercises and habits seem to help, by your own ratings.

Your data is yours alone

Stored on your phone. Yours to take anywhere.

Your journal is about your health, so it never goes to a server. And because it’s yours, you can take all of it with you.

For your therapist Share a PDF summary of the last 7 or 30 days, export everything as a spreadsheet (CSV), or share one session as text before an appointment. For therapists
For your backup Save one file with your sessions, journal and voice memos, then restore it on a new phone.

If this sounds like you, I’d love your help.
