What is Vocal Companion?

Vocal Companion is a voice care app for iPhone and Android. It brings together three things people in voice therapy need: guided voice exercises, a journal for how your voice feels, and progress you can see and share with your speech therapist.

Is there an app for muscle tension dysphonia (MTD)?

Yes. Vocal Companion was made by Mark Jidon, who has muscle tension dysphonia, because he couldn't find one. It has morning and evening routines of exercises often used for MTD, a body map to mark where tension shows up, and progress over 7, 14 and 30 days.

Can I use it for spasmodic dysphonia, vocal nodules or another voice condition?

Yes. Many voice conditions involve daily exercises at home, and you can add the exact exercises your speech therapist gives you, with your own steps and timing. Follow the plan from your speech-language pathologist or ENT, and use the app to keep up with it and track how it feels.

How does it show whether my voice is improving?

After each exercise you rate how easy it felt, and each day you can check in on whether your voice feels tight, okay or free. After a couple of weeks, the Progress tab shows where tension keeps showing up and which exercises and habits seem to help, based on your own ratings.

Can I share my progress with my speech therapist?

Yes. You can share a PDF summary of the last 7 or 30 days, export everything as a spreadsheet (CSV), or share a single session as text. You choose what to send and where. There's more for therapists at vocalcompanion.com/therapists.

Does it replace voice therapy?

No. Vocal Companion guides practice between appointments. It doesn't diagnose or treat any condition. If your voice changes suddenly, hurts, or stays hoarse for more than a few weeks, see a doctor.

Where do the exercises come from?

Every suggested exercise comes from published voice research or NHS speech and language therapy guides, such as straw phonation, lip trills, humming and resonant voice. Each source is listed at vocalcompanion.com/sources.

Is my voice journal private? Does it use AI?

Your journal, ratings and voice memos stay on your phone. There is no account, no analytics and no ads, and no AI reads your notes. You can back up everything to one file or export it whenever you like.

When does it launch, and how much does it cost?

Vocal Companion is launching soon on iPhone and Android. It will have a free 14-day trial with everything included, then a one-time purchase. There's no subscription. Join the waitlist at vocalcompanion.com to hear when it's out and for a chance to test it early.

Who makes Vocal Companion?

Mark Jidon, the founder, who lives with muscle tension dysphonia, through his studio Moriya Works in Malaysia. Email hello@vocalcompanion.com. Mark reads every message.
